Sometimes the toughest battles come from within.

On TruthCity’s latest single, the powerful and gutting “WAR”, the Brooklyn emcee tackles doubt, failure, determination and hope all in one swoop. The poignant lyrics find TruthCity in his most vulnerable state, struggling with his faith and subconscious to find a guide to lead him to the light at the end of the tunnel. “In the sky tryna find you, Lord. Just want to know why. Why? What am I living for, to die?” he asks.

The message isn’t supposed to be a melancholic ode to your inner demons however, but an optimistic view of what the future holds, gift wrapped by an artist who wants others to strive to succeed just as much as himself. The uplifting second verse reminds listeners “if there’s air to breathe then there’s hope,” and motivates them to take charge of their lives and the people they want to become.

The new year is a time for self-reflection, a chance to start anew with a fresh slate and TruthCity’s “WAR” arrives at the perfect time.

He recently dropped another single titled “A Little While”. Go give that a listen as well.
